(1) Every week, on Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Dickie Dixon is a guest on the Bryan Swap Shop with hosts Tommy and Lynn Bryan on AM radio station KRBA radio, which is simulcast as a live television show on television station KLNMtv.com. The show is aired on Suddenlink Channel 16, and the public can access it on their cellphones by googling “klnmtv.com.” A blue rectangular box will appear under the picture of the TV station owners that says “Watch Live Here.” By clicking on this, the public can watch the show. Call in by phone with local history questions or comments or the items you want to sell or you are looking for at 936-632-Sell or 936-637-Deal. If you don’t want to call live, you can text Tommy or Lynn at 936-366-4635 or 936-366-4636 Because of the holidays we will not be on the air on Friday, Dec. 27, but we will return on Friday, Jan. 3.
(2) Penny Clark will discuss the life and career of Big Thicket photographer Larry Fischer at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, at the Iris and Anne Howard Civic Center on 213 East Court Street in downtown Newton, Texas. Larry was well known for not only photographing the life and people of the Big Thicket but for chronicling it. At 6:30 p.m. society and guests will enjoy refreshments, finger food, and desserts together. The public is invited to attend. The Deep East Texas Archeological Society was chartered at the beginning with an archeological and a historical purpose. (3) Dickie Dixon will discuss the life of his father Hershel Dixon with special reference to how he opened his furniture store and how it grew. He will discuss this at 4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, in the Community Meeting Room of Kurth Memorial Library on 706 South Raguet Street in Lufkin.
(4) Sara Boehne, Curator of the Stark Museum in Orange, Texas, will discuss the holdings of the original artwork of John J. Audubon there for the Feb. 3 meeting of the Deep East Texas Archeological Society at 6:30 p.m. at the Iris and Anne Howard Civic Center on 213 East Court Street in downtown Newton, Texas. At 6:30 p.m. society and guests will enjoy refreshments, finger food, and desserts together. The public is invited to attend. Sara will speak about 7:15 p.m., after a short business meeting of the Society.
