Dear Editor:

As a lifelong Liberty County native, we are beginning to see the “urban sprawl.  Houston is headed this way after years of expanding in the other surrounding counties. I know change and growth is coming and our local leaders must get prepared for that growth. Preparing with better roads, drainage, law enforcement, fire and ems protection, and housing, all of those areas will undergo change. I hope with the same low tax rate and regulations that are common sense, not over regulation.

Just because growth is coming does not mean that we need to over tax, and regulate to oblivion to keep people out. I do however think that our local leaders should prepare those  areas for the growth that is coming in the right kind of ways. They must remember that we call Liberty County home for its rural roots, small town feel, where yes, “everybody knows everybody.” If we wanted to live in the big city, we would move there. Liberty County has less regulation, lower taxes, and room to spread out on. That is party of Country Life.

I would encourage those that want to move to Liberty County from “Urban Sprawl” to do so.  We are a great place to live. We are nice, we say hello, and treat people how we want to be treated.  We see most of our neighbors at church on Sunday and at local sporting events.  We are “compassionately conservative.”   I would encourage people to meet there new neighbors and get them involved with continuing to make liberty county great by getting them involved in the local communities.

We should not change to be the big city, but invite them in and include them in our communities and remind them they chose to move here to Liberty County.
