Read moreOver 165 years ago, paddle-wheel steamers were the major means of travel and commerce along the gulf coast and up and down the many rivers which extended from the coast deep into the interior of Texas, including the Trinity River. These paddle-wheel steamers carried passengers from the interior to Galveston and on to New Orleans along with goods raised on many plantations to major markets. They also delivered goods from far away ports not available in frontier Texas. This once invaluable means of travel and commerce is a fascinating part of our early history!
