DAYTON – At the monthly meeting of the Dayton Historical Society, local historians welcomed Rev. Guy Williams from the First Methodist Church of Dayton as their monthly speaker. Williams gave a thorough history of the church's roots in England, America, Texas, and the local church in Dayton. Founded nearly 160 years ago, historical society members learned that the church was founded during the Civil War and other significant history. After the meeting, members of FMC Dayton joined Williams for a group photograph, and everyone enjoyed a light dinner social.

Read moreJoin us at the Colbert- Rosenwald School Museum for a special celebration of Black History Month! Each Saturday in February, we are open from 10 am -2 pm for a special exhibit dedicated to showcasing the school’s history, once known as Annie E. Colbert School, which taught segregated African-American students in all grades from 1927 to 1967. Colbert is one of 5,000 U.S. schools forged by a historic early 20th- century pact between Booker T. Washington and Julius Rosenwald. Today, the structure is now known as the historic Colbert- Rosenwald Museum.
