The Liberty Panthers ran into a buzz saw on Friday night at home in first place Hardin-Jefferson and the Hawks showed why they are worthy of their record in a 92-59 win at Liberty high school. It was all Hawks in the first half as Baxter Wirth and Jaiden Porter combined for 23 first-half points as the visitors led 49-25 at the break. Kaden Nolan led the Panthers in scoring with 17 points converted on a three-point play late in the third quarter to make it 64-36. Liberty then played a very good fourth quarter and outscored Hardin-Jefferson 21-15 in the final eight minutes. Keiron Joiner had a nice pull-up jumper, and then Devin Fregia grabbed an offensive rebound and scored while he was fouled. Austin Walker then hit the offensive boards and scored for the Panthers late in the game. Josh Chandler added 8 points for Liberty. The Panthers will finish the season at home on Friday night against the Livingston Lions.

Liberty led 19-16 after a quarter of play and then outscored Splendora 14-13 in the second period to lead 33-29 at the half. The Lady Panthers led 46-39 heading into the final minutes and then never looked back in the win. Madyson Goudeau and Drelyn Willis each scored 23 points for Liberty to lead the way. The Lady Panthers will face Orangefield in the opening round of the playoffs in Kountze on Thursday night. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
