On Friday night in Humble, the Dayton Broncos finished up the 2020 football season with a 45-6 loss to Kingwood Park at Turner Stadium in district 12-5A-II play. Dayton jumped out in front and then could not score the rest of the way as the Panthers finished the game by scoring the final 45-points. The Broncos jumped out quickly, with quarterback Blayne Denton finding Donovan Orebo on a 32-yard scoring strike to give Dayton a 6-o lead with 10:23 left in the first quarter. Kingwood Park then responded with a Juan Garcia 4-yard run, and after the Anthony Sterner PAT, the home team led 7-6. The score stayed the same until the second quarter when the Panthers increased their lead on a Hudson Dezell to Cavan Adrian’s 17-yard strike to make it 14-6. Kingwood Park then made it 21-6 with 1:15 left in the first half as Code Brady scored from 6-yards out. The Panthers were not done as Sterner booted a 40-yard field goal with no time remaining in the first half, and the advantage was 24-6 at the break. Dezell then put the game away with a couple of touchdown passes in the third quarter, with the first one coming at the 4:49 mark of the quarter and an 18-yard strike to Adrian and a 31-6 lead. With just 55 seconds left in the quarter, it was Dezell hooking up with Patrick Overmyer from 17-yards out, and the score was 38-6. Garcia rounded out the scoring for Kingwood Park early in the fourth quarter by running in from the i-yard line. Dayton finished the game with 354-yards of total offense. Denton passed for 200-yards on 15 of 29 attempts, while Orebo caught six-passes for 104 yards. Kameron George added two receptions for 45-yards while Daveon Washington rushed for 107-yards on 19 totes.

However, with everything changing by the minute, Liberty Head Coach Jason Wickliff had to find a new opponent quickly, and that was Class 5-A La Porte, and the Bulldogs came to town and took care of the Panthers in a 90-57 win. La Porte was hot from the outside and finished the game with 14 three-pointers. Liberty jumped out to a quick 4-2 advantage a couple of minutes in with a trey by Kaden Nolan. Tied at 5-apiece, the Bulldogs started to get it going from downtown and after back-to-back three-pointers that would give the visitors an n-5 advantage with 5:17 left in the first quarter. La Porte kept it going, and after an 11-0 run that saw them lead 16-5, the Panthers Kieron Joiner scored on a drive to stop the run. Down 22-9, Nolan nailed a trey just before the first horn sounded to get Lib-erty within 22-12 after one. The Bulldogs built the lead to 32-17 before a nice drive and bucket by D.J. Harris made it 32-19 midway through the second period. La Porte then ended the quarter on a 143 run to lead 46-26 at the half. Nolan had 8 of his team-high 13-points at the break. The second halfwas much of the same, and the Bulldogs finished the third quarter leading 69-43 after three quarters of play. In the fourth quarter, Joiner did have a nice finish as he grabbed the rebound on one end and went the length of the court for the bucket, which made the score 81-51 at the time. Joiner finished with 12 points while Vincent Harris also finished in double figures with ii. Patrick Flowers chipped in with 8. Liberty travels to Woodville on Friday night.

Read moreThe Dayton Broncos traveled to Galena Park on Tuesday afternoon to face the Galena Park Yellow Jackets and fell in non-district action 70-60. Dayton had two players finish in double figures with Houston Gault scoring 12 and Landon Baldwin adding 11. The Broncos JV grabbed a nice win over the Yellow Jackets 54-42 while the freshman came up on the short end in a 48-35 decision. Dayton will host Tarkington on Friday night then make the drive down I-10 to face Sealy on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Landing on the first team for Head Coach Chad Taylor’s squad was Devon Fregia at tight end and Wyatt Tulley on the offensive line. Making the firstteam defense was Mario Williams at linebacker, Mason Goudeau at corner back, and punt returner Kieron Joiner. Second team selections on the offensive side of the ball are running back Terrick Peterson and wide receiver Vincent Harris. Second team picks on defense are lineman Matthew Porche, linebacker Josh Chandler, and Harris also at the safety position.

Carson Williams led the way with 16 points and 5 rebounds while Colby Barrett also finished in double figures also with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Caden Elmore added 6 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. The day before the Hornets improved to 4-0 on the season with a 60-34 victory over Spurger. Barrett led the way with 18 points while Williams finished with 16. Logan Parker chipped in with 12. Hardin is now 4-1 on the season and will host Hull-Daisetta on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

On Monday afternoon, Dayton traveled to Barbers Hill and fell to the Lady Eagles 39-28 in a low scoring affair. Kyra Keener led the way in scoring with 7 points while Amber Kelly finished with 6. The JV also came up short to Barbers Hill 59-25. Keylee Kokal was the leading scorer with 11. On Tuesday afternoon the Lady Broncos returned home to face Liberty and knocked off the Lady Panthers 56-50. Kelly was the leading scorer with 19 while Keener chipped in with 15. In JV action it was Dayton winning 43-27 over Liberty. Yvonne Maldondo, Halanna King, and Susie Jackson all finished with 7 points apiece. The Lady Broncos varsity is now 3-3 on the season and will travel to Aldine MacArthur on Friday.

Vincent Harris was on fire from the outside for the Panthers with five three-pointers and finished with 17 points. In JV play it was Liberty also winning with a 42-39 victory over the Bulldogs. The Panthers return to action on Friday when they welcome Hull-Daisetta. Game time is set for around 6 p.m. Liberty is preselling tickets to all home games. Home side is allowed 250 tickets and visitor side is allowed 250 tickets. Social Distancing will be observed. Masks must be worn by all persons 10 and older at all times unless eating or drinking.
