Chambers County duo lead West over East

    Anahuac's Meg Kreuzer makes an impressive block on Thursday night in the SETCA All-Star Game. Kreuzer helped lead the West team to a big victory.

WINNIE— It was a Chambers County combo that was too much for the East Team to deal with on Thursday night at the SETCA All-Star Volleyball game.

The two teams featuring Southeast Texas' best met, and it was the West Team that only needed three games to sweep the East 25-20, 25-23 and 26-24.

Meg Kreuzer of Anahuac and Kynlea Gibbs of Barbers Hill combined for 21 kills as they clogged up the middle.

Mallory Frederick of East Chambers was also a key contributor to the West with four service points.

In the opening game, Kreuzer scored on a block to give her team a 9-6 lead.

The East pulled within 17-16 before a Kreuzer kill upped the advantage to 18-16. The West continued their run and closed out game one.

The second game saw Gibbs with a kill to give the West a 5-4 lead.

Tied at 10-apiece, Kreuzer was smoking with an impressive kill to make it 11-10. That would lead to a 7-3 run to give the West a 17-13 advantage.

After the East tied the score at 23, Gibbs nailed a kill down the line and the West led 24-23.

The play got even better in the third game as the crowd got spoiled with exciting volleys and nice digs.

The score was tied at 15 when Gibbs scored with a kill for a 16-15 lead.

The East made some noise and pulled ahead when the momentum began to shift back, as Kreuzer went cross-court with a kill and the West was down 21-17.

The West tied the score at 23 with a kill by Kaitlyn Collins of Splendora. With the West leading 25-24, Hardin's Ellie Brett served up the final point for the win and the three-game sweep.
