Commissioners aid children's museum
ANAHUAC— Commissioners met last week to discuss sponsoring the children's museum and changing rental prices at a sports complex.
The Chambers County Commissioners Court held its monthly meeting on Oct. 14, where they decided to sponsor the farming education center at the Chambers County Children's Museum in Mont Belvieu.
The farming education center is an exhibit detailing the county's history in the farming and ranching industries.
The sponsorship costs $10,000 annually for a three-year contract, which can come from tax funds collected from hotel and motel stays.
Commissioner Precinct 4 Ryan Dagley noted the museum is expanding by about 4,000 square feet, and he, along with County Judge Jimmy Sylvia, complimented the museum on what it offers.
Bobby Hall suggested donating photos of the rice and cattle industries from over the decades to pair with the farming education center.
Commissioners formalized management services with Public Management, Inc., for the Hackberry Creek and Cotton Bayou drainage improvement project, which will be funded through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
Commissioners approved an updated resolution regarding the load limit placement on Fisher Road, which is in the Beach City area. The resolution is an update of the 1987 resolution, which mainly changes the language and reflects the proper transportation codes.
There was a discussion over the fields at Don McCleod Sports Complex. The turfing is complete, and rental prices were adjusted and go into effect in 2026.
Practices will cost $30 for every two hours of use. Practices are only available for in-county teams, where at least 50% of the team lives in the county.
For batting cages, costs will be $25 per hour per lane for out-of-county teams and free for in-county teams.
For tournaments, costs are $200 per field for in-county teams and $500 per field per day for outside organizations. For both, a $30 maintenance fee will be added for a county employee to be on site during tournaments.
The Winnie-Stowell Park will see new lighting as commissioners approved electrical upgrades for $2,600.
