Anahuac’s Jaytwan Dowdye finds a hole on his way to the endzone as the Panthers defeated Buna 32-14 last Thursday night. Dowdye rushed for 203 yards and three scores.

BUNA— The Anahuac Panthers have suddenly found themselves in the middle of the hunt for a playoff spot this season, after winning their second district game of the season over Buna 32-14.

Jaytwan Dowdye rushed for 203 yards and three touchdowns, and the Panthers rolled up 404 yards of total offense in an impressive 32-14 win on Thursday night at Cougar Stadium.

"Our kids really came together as a team last night. Best we have played all season," said Anahuac Head Coach Greg Neece. "I am very proud of how they responded while their backs were against the wall."

The win was the 100th career win for Neece.

The win improved the Panthers to 2-6 on the season, but more importantly, 2-2 in District 10-3A Division I, and right in the middle of the playoff hunt.

Anahuac led 19-7 at the half and extended their lead to 32-7 in the fourth quarter.

Dowdye had 22 carries and averaged 9.2 yards per tote. Darius Richardson finished with 52 yards and a touchdown while Oscar Garza had 48 yards on eight carries. Garza also had two catches for 68 yards and a score.

Quarterback Braydon Sutch passed for 73 yards on 3 of 8 passing and a touchdown.

"Our goal is still to make the playoffs, and winning last night keeps our goal alive," Neece said.

The Panthers sit alone in the fourth and final playoff spot at the moment.

Anahuac will host Hardin on Thursday night and then end the regular season on Nov. 6 at Coldspring.
