ANAHUAC— Those who frequent the county's golf course have likely seen a few improvements on the greens these past few months, and commissioners are continuing to improve the course.

Chambers County Commissioners Court met on Tuesday, Aug. 12, discussing the golf course, airports and legislative updates.

The Chambers County Golf Course will undergo renovations as commissioners approved several items related to the course's upkeep.

Beginning stages are underway for the renovation and construction of the front nine holes of the course, and while the greens have already been resodded, commissioners approved a final payment of just under $23,000 for the most recent work done by Super Sod.

Commissioners purchased a drainage and irrigation system from Professional Turf Products for just under $220,000, which will be ready for installation in about six months, according to Parks and Recreation Director John Parrott.

Commissioner Precinct 4 Ryan Dagley inquired whether the irrigation system would be installed before the renovations of the front nine holes, to which multiple people confirmed as true.

During those renovations, the front nine holes will be closed for two months, but plans are in place to keep the back nine open and available.

"Last year at this time, 15 of the 18 greens were basically unplayable," Commissioner Precinct 2 Mark Tice said, commending Parrott for his efforts over the last four months.

Commissioners approved participating in a TxDOT Airport Master Plan program, which will cost $53,000.

TxDOT will work with a contractor to create a master plan for the airports in Anahuac and Winnie.

District Clerk Patti Henry provided a legislative update for the commissioners.

Henry said those who are 75 or older are exempt from serving in any jury, and the expunction process was streamlined for the clerks and made cheaper for filers.

Previously, filers had to pay a base amount and an extra $15 per department mentioned in the filings, such as law enforcement agencies, courts, attorneys and others.

"This is gonna save hundreds of dollars for the filers," Henry said, adding that there is only a base payment now.

Additionally, courts can now have victim information related to payments to ensure they are receiving what is owed. Previously, the information was considered confidential, and courts weren't able to track payments as easily.

Henry stated that any victim information obtained will not be accessible to the public.

A public hearing on the 2025-26 fiscal budget was set for the next regular meeting, Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m.
