Nutter fans 16 for West in 3-0 victory
ANAHUAC– In perhaps the most dominant pitching performance in the SETCA All-Star Softball game ever, Barbers Hill graduate Hailey Nutter struck out 16 hitters and allowed only two hits while going the distance in leading the West to a 3-0 win over the East.
Nutter finished as the MVP for the West side in front of a crowd in Anahuac last Wednesday night.
Teammate Bre Norman also contributed to the win by making a couple of very nice catches in center field and almost driving one out to dead center field. Barbers Hill's Peyton Helmly made contributions as well.
Not to be outdone was Anahuac's Jayda Granger, who showed her speed in the seventh inning with an infield hit, scoring Liberty's Breezy Pantalion to make it 2-0. Granger finished as the all-time steals leader in Anahuac softball history.
The game was scoreless for the first three innings until Pantalion ended that with a shot over the left/center field fence for a homer and a 1-0 lead.
With Nutter in cruise control on the mound, the West got some insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning.
It was Nutter who got things going with a single. Pantalion entered the game for her as a pinch/runner and quickly stole second base.
Katie Blackmon of Crosby singled sharply, moving Pantalion over to third base. Granger followed with a single to run the lead to 2-0.
The final run came on a single by Baytown Sterling's Simyah Smith for the final score of 3-0.
