Representatives of Anahuac Municipal Development District and Anahuac Area Chamber of Commerce, along with Anahuac locals and Chambers County Commissioner Pct. 1 Jimmy Gore, celebrate the symbolic cutting of a ribbon in celebration of the pickleball courts at Fort Anahuac Park.

ANAHUAC— It was an evening of fun as the community gathered to commemorate the opening of the new pickleball courts at Fort Anahuac Park, with 10 lucky attendees winning special paddles.

While the pickleball courts have been enjoyed by many for some time, a ceremony was held on Monday, May 5 to commemorate the new courts.

Anahuac Municipal Development District partnered with Chambers County Commissioners Court to build the pickleball courts at Fort Anahuac Park.

AMDD President Janice Jircik emphasized shopping local as AMDD gets a percentage of sales tax to be used for local beautification and recreational projects.

“When you shop in Anahuac, that money comes back to you,” Jircik said.

Chambers County Commissioner Pct. 1 Jimmy Gore teased the idea of more pickleball courts and an Anahuac soccer complex, possibly in the next few years.

“We’d love to build four to six more pickleball courts,” Gore said. “They stay full.”

Jircik said if anyone wishes to have something in Anahuac, whether recreational or other, visit with Office Manager Annette Abernathy at the AMDD office at 509 Washington Ave., Anahuac.
