Royal uses size to down Anahuac 52-40
LIBERTY– Early morning games tend to be sloppy, and that was the case on Monday morning for Anahuac and Brookshire Royal, as both teams combined for 49 turnovers in a contest that saw the Falcons size prove to be too much in the end for the Panthers to handle in a 52-40 win at the Liberty Panther Classic.
Anahuac got off to a quick early lead as a three-pointer by Darion Williams gave the Panthers a 7-1 advantage.
Royal came back to tie the score at nine apiece late in the opening quarter. King Charles gave Anahuac an 11-9 lead on an offensive rebound and score.
The second quarter saw Cullen Cotton hit a three-pointer, giving the Panthers a 16-13 lead.
The Falcons then answered with a 15-0 run to move in front for good at 28-16. Brad Coates ended the run with a bucket to cut the deficit to 28-18.
Moments later, Williams connected from downtown, and Anahuac was on a 7-0 run and had cut the lead to 28-23.
Royal extended their advantage to 32-24 early in the third period. Cotton picked up a steal and score to pull the Panthers to within 32-26.
Anahuac stayed close in the third quarter as Sheridan Landon picked up a steal and scored to make it 36-30.
The Falcons led 38-30 heading into the fourth quarter of play.
Trailing 40-30, Williams came up with a steal and a score to make it 40-32.
Royal answered with a 6-0 run to up their lead to 46-32.
The Panthers cut into the score on a three-point play by Charles to pull within 46-35. Anahuac then got a three-point play by Williams to make it 48-38 with 3:10 left in the game.
The Falcons then pulled out the old four corners on offense and ran out the clock to get the 52-40 victory.
Williams led the way in scoring for Anahuac with 14 points and Landon added six.
