Watkins jumps into race for House District 23
MONT BELVIEU– House District 23 will garner a bit of attention during the 2026 election season, as Rep. Terri Leo Wilson has drawn an opponent with deep ties to Chambers County.
Last month, Nathan Watkins, a former Mont Belvieu city manager, officially launched his campaign to unseat Leo Wilson during the March 2026 Republican Primary.
The Naval Special Warfare veteran launched his campaign at an event held at Cactus Jacks, with a large audience in attendance.
“This district deserves true representation. Someone who is going to stand up and get things done,” he told those in attendance.
In a press release, Watkins’ campaign highlights his experience as city manager, describing him as a champion of transparency, fiscal discipline, and results that focus on responsible growth and infrastructure.
“At City Hall, I saw how conservative principles deliver measurable results,” Watkins said. “Families deserve safe neighborhoods, dependable infrastructure, and a fairer tax system that lets them build a future here in Texas.”
He is pushing a “mission-first” message, focusing on public safety, energy, and real property tax relief for Texans, according to his release.
“Texas needs proven leaders who run toward hard problems and finish the mission,” Watkins said. “As a member of the Naval Special Boat Teams, I led combat operations supporting SEALs and other national assets on missions that achieved major successes for Joint Special Operations Command. In Iraq. I learned what courage, discipline, and teamwork really mean. I’m ready to bring that same mindset to Austin and fight for the people of District 23.”
