David Leonard has been a member of the Liberty Lions club since 1989. Since that time, he has been a driving force in the club. He assists with all club projects and is especially dedicated to the Flags Across Liberty fundraiser and the Lions Club concession stand at the Liberty Football Field. Of important note to many Liberty Lions, he was instrumental in having air conditioning installed in the concession stand. In the 1990s, David and his brother worked to restore the South Liberty Methodist Church, which remains active today. One of his many talents is cooking. He put that to use during Hurricane Ike to assist with feeding the utility workers that were busy getting power back on. He has consistently opened his home for club use when our meeting rooms have been unavailable or for special projects.

Outside of Lions, he has served the community in many different ways. Including serving multiple years with the Trinity Valley Exposition. He was appointed to the Trinity River Authority Board of Directors by Governor Rick Perry and later reappointed by Governor Greg Abbott.

He has received many Lions recognitions through the years, including Liberty Lion of the year, Melvin Jones Fellowship, Jack Weich Fellowship, along with many others. He was named Liberty Citizen of the Year in 2009 by the Chamber of Commerce. He has also received an Outstanding Service Award from the Liberty Council of the Knights of Columbus, of which he is an active member.

He has been married to his wife Brenda for 39 years and they have two children, Kayla and Carson. He has many other great achievements and qualities, too numerous to list. It’s been my honor to introduce our inductee Lion, David Leonard.
