The Dayton Rotary Club recently met and greeted the new Dayton Broncos Head Football Coach and Assistant Athletic Director Jerry Prieto.

Rotarian, Dr. Travis Young introduced the program and the newest Bronco. Coach Prieto comes to Dayton with 19 years of coaching experience and five as a head coach, where he collected a record of 42-22 in those seasons, with a 10-4 record in the postseason.

Last season, he coached Lake Worth High School and led them to a bi-district appearance. Prieto graduated from Sam Houston State, earned his undergraduate education degree, and earned his master’s at Lamar University.

The coach has already started working with the athletes and has been getting to know the coaching staff along with the community.

Prieto comes with some impressive accomplishments and accolades including: the 2020 All-Greater Houston Coach of the Year by the Houston Chronicle, 2020 Co-Coach of the Year by Vype, and was a finalist for Coach of the Year by the Touchdown Club the same year, and the 2021 Touchdown Club of Houston Coach of the Year.

However, in listening to his presentation, those honors have not gone to his head. The new coach is humble, professional, confident, dedicated and is certainly a family man.

Not only did he talk about Julie, his wife of eighteen years and his two sons- ninth grader Jerry, Jr. and seventh grader Mason, but he described his philosophy of building a family of athletes and the importance of community.

Welcome Coach Jerry Prieto, wife Julie and sons Jerry, Jr. and Mason to the Dayton Community.
