Republican Women’s Club seeking scholarship applicants

LIBERTY COUNTY — The newly revived Liberty County Republican Women’s Club is starting off with a bang.

The group has launched a round of scholarship opportunities for local high school seniors. The scholarship applications aim to encourage aspiring young people to understand our form of government and how to address a problem through policy changes.

“From the outset, we want our club to be a part of providing tangible action to help preserve what is left of our rapidly diminishing freedoms. Providing opportunities for our young people to learn the importance of those freedoms is something we can do,” said LCRW President Sarah Vickery.

The idea for the scholarships was proffered at the group’s first meeting of 2024 by Treasurer Emily Cook. Members Michelle Merendino and Darla Elder, club secretary, quickly volunteered to provide the seed money for the scholarships. The applications are open to all high school seniors living in Liberty County. The application can be found on the group’s website at libertycountyrw. wixsite.com.

LCRW meets at New Work Fellowship Church, thanks to the generosity of Pastor Chris Contreras and his congregation. Meetings take place every odd- numbered month on the third Tuesday. The next meeting is May 21. Interested ladies can join; dues are currently set at $25. See the group’s website for more information.
