Governor Greg Abbott has given official recognition to Masonic Lodges across the state of Texas by designating May 9-13, 2022 as “Texas Masonic Scholarship Week”.
Bradley S. Billings, Grand Master of Masons in Texas has issued a proclamation which in part makes the following statements:
Whereas, Freemasons have supported education in Texas since the days of the Republic, often allowing the first floor of their buildings to be used as school rooms and at times paying the salaries of the teachers, and
Whereas, Texas Masons in 2022, in conjunction with the Texas Masonic Charities Foundation, will give away approximately $2.4 million in scholarships to Texas students, and
Whereas, Texas Freemasonry has given overt $16 million in scholarships since 2010, and
Whereas, almost 600 Texas Lodges offer a scholarship(s) to deserving Texas students, and
Whereas, Governor Greg Abbott issued a proclamation on April 22nd, 2022 “…commending the many Masonic Lodges across the Lone Star State for their commitment to education and supporting Texas students.”
Liberty Masonic Lodge No. 48 will provide a total of $8,000.00 in scholarships for selected graduating seniors at the school’s annual Awards Banquet. Two students from Hardin High School will be recognized on May 20, 2022, and two students at Liberty High School will be recognized on May 24, 2022.
