The Dayton ISD Robotics class had a competition recently in celebration of March Madness.

The objective was to design, build, and control a VEX robot to pick up the “basketball” and drop it in the box. The slam dunk competition was designed to go with the basketball March Madness theme.

Problem- solving and collaboration were key to this event. The major complication of the project was to troubleshoot and re-design the gear trains for the lift arm.

The balls were too heavy at first, so the teams had to go back to the drawing board and configure their gears for better torque in order to lift the ball.

The journaling and documentation of the project by each team was elevated to a premium level and scored accordingly.

Dayton High School was thrilled at the level of student participation and engagement.
