BAYTOWN — A Dayton local was appointed as chaplain for the Civil Air Patrol’s Baytown Senior Squadron, bringing with him over a decade of ministerial experience.

Capt. Scott Griffin was appointed in mid-August of this year, and as a chaplain, Griffin will provide spiritual guidance and counseling to senior members.

“ Scott hopes that all people know that regardless of their past, salvation can be realized through belief in Jesus Christ (John 3:16),” a press release stated.

Griffin has 13 years of ministry experience, currently serving as pastor of Grace Bible Church of Baytown.

Before becoming senior pastor in March 2021, Griffin served as associate pastor of the church. He also served as a Sunday school teacher, prison Bible teacher with the Prison Ministries of Texas and as hospice chaplain.

He spent a year at Dallas Theological Seminary before transferring to Chafer Theological Seminary, finishing school with a Master of Biblical Studies in 2023.

Griffin moved to Dayton in fifth grade, and when he turned 18 years old, he joined the U. S. Navy, coming back home in 2002 after four years of service.

The Civil Air Patrol seeks volunteers for both adults and children aged 12 to 18 for roles such as chaplaincy, piloting, or emergency services. Memberships begin at $35 per year.
