Local students attend Boys State and Girls State Camps

Each year The American Legion Department of Texas conducts the Boys State program in Austin, TX and The American Legion Auxiliary conducts Girls State in Seguin, TX.

All these att endees are sponsored by The American Legion Dayton Memorial Post 512, with donations received from local banks of Dayton, Hardin, Hull-Daisett a, and Liberty.

These High School students must have completed their Junior Year and are chosen by the counselors according to their academic achievements. Students are chosen from Dayton, Hardin, Hull-Daisetta, and Hardin High Schools. This year Boy’s State att endees: William Valentine and Nicholas Lopez of Dayton High School, Blake Parksons of Hardin High School, William Downs of Hull-Daisetta High School, and Joseph Garcia of Liberty High School. And chosen to att end Girl’s State was Jackie Penaloza from Dayton High School. Boys State had over 1,000 attendees, and Girls State had over 600 att endees.
