LIBERTY - The community gathered last Friday at the Liberty Municipal Library to celebrate the retirement of Dana Abshier for her twenty- nine years of service to the community.

“ It’s been such a great opportunity to serve as Director of the Library and service the commu- nity,” Abshier said. “ It’s great to see all the support.”

The Friends of the Library awarded Abshier with a small statue of an angel in honor of her service.

Community members wrote well wishes on colored notecards for Abshier, offering her words of retirement. Those in attendance enjoyed good conversation while enjoying snacks and beverages.

Abshier plans to paint, write, do genealogical research, and spend much more time with her family. She says having time to read for pure enjoyment will be very nice. She will contribute to the library through continued membership in the Friends of the Library and invites others to join this active group.

Local leaders in the community were in attendance, such as Liberty City Councilman Tommy Brents, Liberty Mayor Carl Pickett, Liberty Community Development Corporation President Barbara Norwood.
