‘Follow the evidence’ will be program for genealogists

Posted in:

The Liberty County Genealogical Society will meet Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. in the DAR meeting room behind the Cleveland-Partlow House on Grand Avenue in Liberty.

The program via webinar will be “Follow the Evidence,” getting all you can from old records. Many of the records we find are actually just indexed or abstracted entries pointing to the original source. Whenever possible, indexed records should be traced to their original sources. An original record may contain additional or sometimes even different information. A good example could be a death certificate. Indexed or abstracted records may only tell you the date of death, the person’s name and place of death. The original death certificate can hold much more information. The decedent’s date of birth, his or her parents’ names, cause of death, employment, address and many other pertinent facts to help you on your genealogical quest.

Please join the LCGS on the third Tuesday of each month for workshops and webinars to help you as you discover your family tree and history. Dues for individuals are $20 and $30 for couples. For more information or questions, please email libertygenie@yahoo.com or call 936-334-5813.
