DayGaCom returns this weekend
DAYTON — Dust off those boots and iron your cape because this weekend, you want to be ready to show your love for comics, games and so much pop culture you may explode.
It is time for Dayton’s third Day-GaCom event, and there is plenty for the entire family to enjoy. If you are into cosplay, well, by all means, you might want to show up in your cape and boots.
The event will showcase plenty of comic books and their creators. There will be voice actors from some popular cartoons and anime, and you don’t want to miss big appearances by special guests like WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter, Mark Pillow, who portrayed Nuclear Man in Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, and not one, but two Peppermint Pattys.
Several special panels are tapped for the weekend, with talks about comics, cosplay, cartoon and anime voice actors, and more, including special sessions with Sgt. Slaughter and Pillow.
Star Trek fans will be excited to discover some exciting Starfleet activities, and who knows, you may come face-to-face with Star Wars faithful along the way.
One of the pillars of DayGaCom over the last several years, Dayton native Travis Huffman, will be on hand with his partners from Last Sentry Comics. LSC publishes comics like The Stalker, Kizam Krey: Tales of The Stalker, Karbon, Klawpin, Inspector Von Ghoul, Z-Nith and G.I. Bro, which is inspired by WWE Hall of Famer Booker T’s alter ego.
“ I can’t wait to come home to Dayton. As a kid, I was creating comic books in spiral notebooks all the way through my time at Dayton ISD. I created our flagship character, The Stalker, in the sixth grade at Colbert,” Huffman said, “Here we are, nearly 30 years after graduating from high school, and I’m making comic books professionally. Hard work pays off. I hope to inspire the next generation with this visit to Dayton at DayGaCom.”
Artist Jake Goodman, who spent most of his childhood in Dayton, will also return home for DayGa-Com this year. Goodman is an inker and penciler who collaborates with independent comic book publishers.
There will be loads of vendors with everything you could imagine and undoubtedly something for your crew, including Rumble Robots. That’s right, you can build and go to battle with your very own robot.
Food truck vendors will also be on hand serving up all sorts of treats throughout the weekend.
So, head out to the Dayton Community Center at 801 S. Cleveland St. this weekend, with day passes starting at $ 10, weekend passes at $15, and kids 12 and under are free.
