Yeehaw for Mayhaw
DAISETTA — The Mayhaw Festival is just around the corner, and there is a lot of excitement for people of all ages to come out and enjoy.
The festival, which doubles as a scholarship and grant fundraiser, will run from Saturday, May 3 to Saturday, May 10.
“It’ll be much bigger this year than it was last year,” Daisetta Alderman Andrew McClusky said.
Funds from the festival go towards scholarships for Hull- Daisetta High School graduates, community grants to local organizations and towards projects to strengthen the community.
The 2025 Citizen of the Year will be announced at the festival, likely during the BullJam.
On May 3, attendees can enjoy the fellowship breakfast and the 43rd Annual “Under the Stars” Beauty Pageant. The pageant will be bigger and better than ever, with 70 contestants signed up.
The Fourth Annual Bull-Jam is Sunday, May 4 at the Trinity Valley Exposition arena. Gates open at noon, with the action beginning at 2 p.m. Entrance fees are $15 for adults and $5 for children. There will be a live auction, and there will be plenty of food and fellowship.
The carnival will run from Thursday, May 8 to Saturday, May 10. Wristbands are $30.
The Barbeque Cook-Off is Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10 at Main Street, Daisetta. The cook-off will feature chicken, ribs, brisket and more.
There will also be jackpot categories, a steak cook-off and a kid’s cookoff. An auction and cornhole games will be available to add to the fun. Prizes for the cook-off include cash prizes and awards.
On May 10, the day will begin with the Trail Ride, which will join in the Festival Grand Parade. In the evening, there will be a
street dance with music by the Dyllan Culp Band. Gates will open at 7 p.m. and there is a $15 admission fee.
At the street dance, the cook-off and Jelly and Baking Competition winners will be announced. Categories include jellies, cakes, decorated cakes, bread, cookies and pies.
Also, on May 10, there will be three-on-three basketball games and six-man volleyball games.
From Friday, May 9 to Saturday, May 10, there will be about 10 food and beverage vendors offering a variety of tasty options, along with about 20 market vendors offering a variety of handcrafted and unique products.
