Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare Receives Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) Expansion Grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
On July 6, 2021, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced that Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare was selected to receive a 2-year, 2 million dollar a year Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic Expansion grant. Tri-County was eligible to apply for this funding after being Certified as a CCBHC by Texas HHSC in March of this year. Tri-County’s CCBHC Expansion grant will be used to provide needed services including:
- Expanded Therapy Services;
- Expanded School-Based Clinic operations (Cleveland ISD);
- Expanded Substance Use Disorder Treatment (Liberty and Walker County);
- Enhanced Care Coordination; and
- Enhanced Child and Youth Intake (Liberty County).
The CCBHC Expansion grant is the first SAMHSA grant that Tri-County has been awarded in the 38 years of operations. The grant was competitively awarded to sites across the United States. Tri-County is one of 7 Centers in Texas to receive this grant award during this funding cycle.

The funding period begins on August 31, 2021 and lasts for two years. Tri-County has committed to having services provision begin within four months after receiving initial funding. Available positions will be posted on the Tri-County website.
About Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare
Tri-County became the 24th Community Center in Texas to be Certified by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic on March 1, 2021. CCBHCs are designed to provide a comprehensive range of mental health and substance use disorder service. The initial CCBHC certification is for three years.
Founded in 1983, Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare is one of 39 Community Centers in Texas which provide services to persons with mental illnesses and intellectual/developmental disabilities to all of the 254 counties in the state. Tri-County is a unit of local government sponsored by the Commissioners’ Courts of Liberty, Montgomery and Walker Counties and is funded primarily through billing for insurance and contracts with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Tri-County provided services to 11,500 persons with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and/or substance use disorders in Fiscal Year 2020.
