Police are investigating the discovery of a set of human skeletal remains, off FM 1409 between Entzminger Street and Ripkowski Drive, at the site of a land clearing project in that area Thursday afternoon in Dayton. After the discovery, Texas Rangers joined the Dayton Police Department in the investigation.

On Friday, investigators returned to the scene, along with members of Texas Equu-Search. At that time, the investigation had recovered most of the skeletal remains of a single individual, according to Dayton PD Lt. Shane Burleigh.

The skeletal remains have been sent over to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy and will be forwarded on to the crime lab for DNA testing.

More information will be made available as the investigation continues.
