Politics takes few breaks, and candidates have already begun to hit the stump as they try and round up support ahead of the March 2024 primaries.

Recently, Democratic candidate for the United States Senate, Thierry Tchenko, stopped off in Liberty County as he works to earn his party’s nomination in hopes of facing off with Sen. Ted Cruz.

Tchenko stopped off for a visit with Party Chair Michael Mark, where he addressed local Democrats about his U. S. Senate campaign “ Thierry Tchenko is a very impressive young man and I think he would be a wonderful United States Senator for Texas and represent us well,” said Mark.

Tchenko is a first- generation Texan born in Houston; he is the son of Cameroonian immigrants and accredits his parents with helping him tap into the American Dream.

He is an organizer, former local government official, and most recently, a nonprofit executive at one of Texas’s largest nonprofit organizations, Rebuilding Together Houston. The organization provides home repairs to seniors, veterans, and low- income families in need.

A former campaign staffer for President Joe Biden, he received his Bachelor’s Degree from McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. While attending McMurry University, he took time off to work on the gubernatorial campaign of Wendy Davis in 2014 against eventual winner Greg Abbott.

Upon graduation, he relocated to Washington, D.C., where he earned his master’s from Georgetown University before serving as a fellow in the White House Office of Management and Budget and worked in other government roles in D.C.
