Christmas Eve fire leaves family out in cold

KENEFICK – As families settled in for the Christmas holiday, a devastating housefire in West Woodland Hills left one family out in the cold on Christmas Eve.

Dispatchers received a call about a fire in the back of a mobile home located at 571 CR 6471 just before 7:30 pm on Saturday.

Firefighters from Kenefick Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call initially before calling for assistance from other area departments.

According to Liberty County Fire Marshal Bill Hergemueller, the fire destroyed the home completely.

All members of the family escaped the home without injury.

Mutual aid came from the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department, HWY 321 Volunteer Fire Department, Liberty County ESD No. 3, Liberty County Fire Marshal’s Office, Liberty County Hazmat, the Liberty County Sheriff ’s Office, and medical units were on standby.

The Vindicator is still awaiting information on the cause of the fire.
