Dispute over appliance ends in shooting

A dispute over some appliances on Trahan Street in Ames ended in a shooting at about 1:30 p.m. today in south Liberty County that sent 34-year-old Courtney Dickerson to Memorial Herman Hospital, in Houston, with what is thought to be a non-life threatening gunshot to an arm.

According to Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel McMullan, Dickerson and his sister came to the home of his uncle, David Michael Dickerson, who is wheelchair bound, to get an appliance that was sitting in the front yard.

At some point, Courtney Dickerson insisted that he be allowed to take an appliance and David Dickerson equally insisted that he not do so. A physical altercation began and Courtney Dickerson knocked David Dickerson from his wheelchair and onto the ground. David Dickerson struggled to make his way back into his house and it is alleged that Courtney Dickerson broke out the glass in the door and window in an attempt to gain entry into the house. As he started to enter the front door, David Dickerson fired one shot from a .22 rifle striking Courtney in his arm. Courtney Dickerson was transported to the Houston hospital by ground ambulance in what is thought to be stable condition.

According to Investigator Ann Marie Mitchell, who is conducting the follow-up investigation, the investigation is ongoing and will be referred to the Liberty County Grand Jury for any possible charges once the case is completed.
