Liberty Police are investigating a late afternoon accident on Hwy. 90 in the river bottoms which claimed the lives of two.

Shortly before 4:00 p.m. on 10/3/2019 Liberty Police responded to a multi-vehicle accident on Hwy. 90 approximately one-half mile west of the Trinity River bridge on Hwy. 90.  Initial investigation determined that a 2016 Ford pickup was traveling eastbound on Hwy. 90 when that vehicle veered across the road, through the median, striking the rear axels of an 18-wheeler headed west on Hwy. 90.  The 2016 Ford then spun around and was struck by a Bus/Van type vehicle.  The 2016 Ford came to rest in the median, the bus//van ended up on the north side of Hwy. 90.  A second 18-wheeler went off the road to avoid the crash and struck a highway sign causing minor damage.

The driver of the 2016 Ford was identified as Russell Allen Ham, age 79, from Louisiana was transported to Liberty Dayton Hospital where he was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Larry Wilburn.

The passenger in the Ford was transported to Liberty Dayton Hospital in in stable condition.

The driver of the Bus/Van was identified as Margarito Dominguez Jr., age 59.  He was transported by Air Ambulance to Hermann Hospital where he later died of injuries sustained.

Two passengers in the bus/van were treated and released from Liberty Dayton Hospital.

Hwy. 90 west remained closed until approx. 10:00 p.m. while the investigation was conducted.  Liberty Police requested Department of Public Safety to “Scale the Scene.”  This is a lengthy process; however, it is needed in an accident of this magnitude.

Liberty Police initially believe that the 2016 Ford which crossed the median is due to a medical condition with Mr. Ham. The investigation is ongoing.
