CLEVELAND - A 39-year- old man collapsed and later died after exercising at the Cleveland High School football stadium off Truman Street.

The man was accompanied by his 10-year-old son, as well as his 13-year-old nephew. The duo were walking with him in the parking lot near the stadium’s front entrance. The young men paced ahead of the man until the son looked back to discover that his father, who was lying on the ground, appeared distressed.

The man’s son and nephew ran back to find that the man did not appear to be breathing. At that point, the son began to administer CPR on his father.

A passerby called Cleveland Police Department dispatch to report that a man appeared to be lying on the ground near the high school football stadium.

Cleveland Police Department patrol officers, along with members of the Cleveland Fire Department, were dispatched to the area.

Upon arrival, Cleveland PD officers noted that the man was not breathing and began assisting with CPR efforts until members of the Cleveland Fire Department arrived on the scene.

The fire department members took over CPR efforts and attempted other emergency life- saving measures.

A Montgomery County EMT unit was dispatched to the scene, where its members also attempted to revive the man. They were unsuccessful in their efforts.

The man was pronounced deceased on the scene by Liberty County Pct. 6 Justice of the Peace Ralph Fuller.

Family members arrived at the scene, where they reported that the man had recently been suffering from medical conditions, which may have contributed to his demise. An autopsy was ordered on the man by Fuller.

“Although preliminary findings do not reflect any foul play, the Cleveland Police Department’s CID division will be conducting a further investigation into this incident,” said Cleveland Police Chief Darrel Broussard, who went on to say, “our prayers go out to the family of the victim, and more so to the young men who witnessed this sad event.”

The name of the victim is currently being withheld and will be released at a later date.
