Multiple homes burned to the ground from fires as first responders desperately tried to assist through challenging situations such as low water pressure, loss of electricity and icy road conditions. Several charities and fundraisers have been set up to help families who lost nearly everything they own.

In Liberty County’s neighboring city, Baytown, an entire apartment complex burned as firefighters struggled with low water pressure. Dozens of people were left homeless as they watched their irreplaceable valuables go up in flames.

Here in Liberty County, some people were lucky and only received minor damage, but others lost their entire home.

City of Liberty Fire Chief Brian Hurst recommends, “Change the batteries in smoke alarms and CO alarms to make sure they’re good. Be safe, and if you have questions or doubts, give us a call.”

Most fire departments are even willing to come to residents to ensure they have proper fire protection.
