Tragic accident takes life of local banker

Posted in:

DAYTON - A tragic multi-vehicle accident in the 5900 block of HWY 146 in Dayton has resulted in the death of a well know area banker.

Bobby Guy Allen, 73, of Liberty, was known to folks around Hardin and the surrounding area as an executive for Hardin Bank.

According to Dayton PD Lt. Eric L. Ibarra, Allen lost his life during the accident that occurred at approximately 7: 20 pm Monday.

According to a statement investigating officers determined that Grady Barber of Baytown was driving a GMC SUV, which failed to yield the right of way coming out of a private driveway attempting to cross the northbound lanes of HWY 146.

At that time, a gray Infinity SUV driven by Allen struck the GMC as it crossed its path, pushing it into the southbound lanes of traffic.

A Hyundai traveling southbound, driven by Brooklyn Lee of Cleveland, struck Barber’s vehicle, causing it to rest in the northbound lanes of traffic, where it was struck again by a Chevrolet SUV driven by Allen Swindull of Kingwood.

Barber and Swindull were transported by ambulance to local hospitals for unknown injuries.

Liberty County J.P. Pct. 4 Larry Wilburn performed an inquest at the scene. The investigation is still ongoing.
