Audrey Allene Alexander Cox, 95, passed away in Kingwood on Oct. 13. 

Services for Mrs. Cox will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, at Schmidt Funeral Home, 1508 East Avenue, Katy, TX 77493. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. The family will receive friends 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. before the service at Schmidt Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 17, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Beaumont.   

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Toler, and Vicki Clayton and husband Graham; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brother, W.E. “Gene” Alexander; and brother-in-law, E.T. “Gene” Corder. She was preceded in death by parents, Florence and Floyd Alexander; sister, Ruby Corder; and husband of 72 years, Clodis Cox.

Audrey was a to-the-penny bookkeeper. She worked with Clodis at M&M Air Service and Texas Rice Improvement Association, where she served as secretary-treasurer for more than 40 years.  They continued working together at Seaberg Rice Company in Dayton and Cox–Nelson Seed Company in Katy.

Dedicated Christians, she and Clodis were active in Churches of Christ in Beaumont, Dayton, Katy and Fulshear. Audrey was the “Candy Lady” to generations of church kids.

Her life can be summed up in the following quote: She “added to the sum of human joy and were every one to whom she did some loving service to bring a blossom to her grave, she would sleep tonight beneath a wilderness of flowers.” — Robert Ingersol.
