Dwight Allen Pruitt

Dwight Allen Pruitt was the second child born to the late Eural Pruitt, Jr. and Lois Lee Pruitt on November 24, 1961 in Dayton, Texas.

Dwight was heavily influenced by his maternal grandmother, Vester Lee Earls. She ushered him into his spirituality and he accepted Christ at an early age at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He started working out his souls’ salvation by being a member of both the junior choir and usher board.

Dwight attended public schools in Dayton and graduated from Dayton High School in 1980.

In the early 1990s, Dwight accepted his calling from God to go into the ministry. Dwight began to grow in the ministry at Good Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church in Waco, Texas. Then Dwight returned home to Dayton and attend St. Miles Missionary Baptist Church. It was there he preached his first sermon. While at St. Miles he implemented an AA ( Alcoholic Anonymous) – NA ( Narcotic Anonymous) program; to this day, , 1961-2023

it is still serving the community. During this time, he also started a prison outreach program. He became an ordained minister while attending Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Soon after Dwight was then called to pastor St. Miles Missionary Baptist Church. Dwight acquired a Bachelor Of Theology from the United Christian Theological Institution, Houston, TX in 2004.

Along with pastoring, Dwight was known as a community advocate. He served the city of Dayton as a councilman. He was a member of the Liberty County Hospital District Board, the Dayton Community Development Center, and the city of Dayton’s Park Board. Dwight served in different capacities at the Liberty County Courthouse for numerous years. Dwight worked diligently and retired from the Liberty County Appra i s a l District, where he truly found his niche in helping people. Dwight will be forever, the honorary “ Mayor of Lowoods.” He was truly as civic minded person who made positive contributions to the community and Liberty County at large.

He passed away peacefully at his home with his loving wife, Liz at his side on the 23rd of February 2023.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Lois and Eural Pruitt, Jr. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Liz Pruitt, daughters Brandy Pruitt, Casundra ( LJ) Hebert, Dettra Pruitt, Crystal ( Kelly) Porche, son Kip ( Meredith) Edwards, siblings Frosty ( Linda) Pruitt, Billy ( Vawnda) Bell, Sr., Jamie ( Dave) Wright and Barry ( Maritza) Pruitt, uncle Clarence (Susie) Murray, grandchildren Kayla, Armani, Matthew, Keion, Braylen, Luke, Kaylee, David, Kason, Cesley and Draylen, nephews, nieces, lots of relatives, friends and Godfather, Earl Randolph.
