The tone was set early Friday night as the Orangefield Bobcats scored on their first play from scrimmage and continued their domination of the Liberty Panthers, beating the local boys by a score of 34-13. This brings the Panthers record to 4 and 3 on the season, and 1 and 2 in District play.
The high-powered Bobcat fullback duo of senior Hunter Ashworth and junior Cameron DIschler, combined with a strong offensive line, took the lead over the Panthers and never looked back. While Ashworth had a good night carrying the ball 12 times for 53 yards, Dischler dominated the field with 14 carries, 232 yards, and 3 touchdowns. The Bobcats racked up 368 yards on 40 plays, 38 of them on the ground. Quarterback Brayden Parker was 1 for 2 passing for 6 yards. There were no turnovers from either team, and the game was virtually penalty-free. Liberty could only muster 196 yards on 52 offensive snaps. Quarterback Kaden Nolan was 2 for 6, passing for 17 yards. Liberty's leading rusher was senior Jolan Curtis, who had 102 yards on 20 carries and 1 touchdown. Liberty did fumble once but recovered it themselves.
As stated at the beginning, the Bobcats scored on their first play. After holding Liberty to a 3-and-out, Cameron Dischler blasted through the Panther line and scampered 70 yards for his first score of the night. Freshman Ty Butler's kick was good, and Orangefield was out to a 7-0 lead at the 9:15 mark of the 1st quarter. After the squads traded punts, the Panthers tied the game at the 10:51 mark of the 2nd quarter. Quarterback Kaden Nolan called his own number and took it in from 5 yards out. Brian Montes' kick was good, and the score was tied at 7 each. That's when the Cameron Dischler show came on. The junior running back scored twice more before halftime, one a 5-yard dive with 8:15 on the clock and then on a 20-yard scamper with 3:41 left in the first half. Both PATs were good, and the Bobcats took a 21-7 lead into intermission.
Orangefield received the 2nd half kickoff and put together an 8-play, 78-yard drive capped by Gavin Perry-Koci's 28-yard run. The PAT was again good, and the Bobcats had stretched their lead to 28-7. Orangefield's defense held the Panthers to an over-on-downs and scored again on their next possession. Their 5-play, 66-yard drive resulted in a Hunter Ashworth 7-yard touchdown run. The PAT was no good, but the Bobcat lead was now 34-7 with 1:44 left in the 3rd. Liberty scored once more with 9;36 left in the game. This came at the end of a 12-play, 66-yard Panther drive. Jolan Curtis again did the job from 5 yards out. The PAT was no good, and the score was Orangefield 34, Liberty 13, and that's where it ended.
Liberty has next Friday night off but will travel to West Orange-Stark on the 22nd. Kickoff is set for 7:30
