Burkland delivers walk-off homer in 10-0 victory against Hamshire-Fannett

Mikaelah Burkland was ready to go home and so were her Liberty teammates on Tuesday night at home and the senior granted everyone’s wishes with a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the Lady Panthers a 10-0 win over Hamshire-Fannett in district action. The senior finished the game with five RBI’s and two hits to lead the 11-hit attack by Liberty. Freshman Hollie Thomas also enjoyed a nice game with three RBI’s and a pair of hits. Senior hurler Kaci West allowed just one hit while striking out nine for the game. The Lady Panthers jumped out quickly with two runs in the bottom half of the first. Jaylen Prichard walked and then moved to third on a single by West. Burkland then lifted a fly ball to the outfield to score Prichard and make it 1-0. Thomas then followed with a double-to-score pinch/runner Ashlyn Cordova and the advantage was 2-0. Liberty then loaded the bases in the second frame and added another run as a walk to West scored Kylie Bishop to make it a 3-0 lead. The Lady Panthers then doubled their lead in the fourth, with Prichard and West both reaching on walks. Burkland then followed with an RBI single to score Prichard and the score was 4-0. Thomas then stroked a two-run single and Liberty was leading 6-0. The Lady Panthers then put the game away with four runs in the fifth as Maci Beam scored Reese Evans with an RBI single and then Burkland hammered a pitch down the left-field line to send the Liberty fans home happy. Kylie Bishop and Beam also had two hits each. The Lady Panthers will finish up district play tomorrow night as they travel to Splendora.
