Dayton’s Braylon Cook gets ready to stiff arm a Goose Creek Memorial defender on Thursday evening in the Broncos scrimmage. The Vindicator | Jerry Michalsky

The skies were not very friendly on Thursday evening at Houston Methodist Field at Bronco Stadium as the Dayton Broncos had one last dress rehearsal before the 2022 season Although Dayton had limited time against Goose Creek Memorial in their final scrimmage, the Broncos looked great.

After both teams worked on some special teams, a full half of football was supposed to ensue, but the weather just wouldn’t allow it.

Dayton scored with 5:39 left in the first quarter with Vernon Harrison scoring on a 22-yard run to lead 7-0.

Quarterback Carson Horton then got into the end zone on a 20-yard keeper and the Broncos led 14-0.

With a constant downpour at this point., Harrison went straight up the middle on a 75-yard score and the score was 21-0 with 2:29 left in the first quarter.

That would be it for the scrimmage as lightning started to get closer to the area and this sports guy was okay with that considering I had been standing in a constant downpour for 15 minutes.

Dayton travels to Porter tomorrow night for the season opener with the Spartans with game time set for 7 pm.
