Dayton plays well in 7 on 7 SQT

On Saturday at Houston Methodist Field at Bronco Stadium, Dayton hosted a 7 on 7 State Qualifying Tournament.

Dayton played in Pool A with Crosby, Huntsville, and Pasadena Rayburn.

The Broncos went 3-0 and won their pool which qualified them for Bracket play and a chance to play Aldine Eisenhower. Needing a win to qualify

Needing a win to qualify for state, Dayton fell a little short against the Eagles.

The Broncos started the morning off with a 36-0 pounding of Rayburn. Dayton started the scoring with quarterback Carson Horton hitting Vernon Harrison for a 15-yard score. Ashanti Allen then got an interception and the Broncos scored again just before the half as Horton connected with CJ Hubert on a 9-yard score and Dayton led 15-0 at the break. Horton hit Braeden White on a 4-yard score early in the second half and then found Braylen Cook on a 27-yard hook-up to make it 28-0. The final score came on a Horton to Harrison 21-yard score and a final of 36-0.

Next up was Huntsville and a 31-0 win. Horton hooked up with White on a 2-yard score and then found Caleb Ramirez from 11-yards out to make it 13-0. Hubert then caught a 35-yard score and then Horton found Ramirez from 17-yards out and a 25-0 advantage. The final score came on a Aidan McSpadden to White 28-yard score.

The Broncos then entered their final pool game with Crosby and both teams had 2-0 records. The Cougars led 7-0 and then Dayton tied the game on a 31-yard score from Horton to Cook 31-yard strike. Allen then picked off another pass and that would lead to a Horton connection to Cook score from 3-yards out and the Broncos led 14-7. Crosby scored to get within 14-13 and then Dayton finished the game off with a Horton to White 12-yard strike to lead 20-13. Hubert then got an interception to seal-the-deal on the victory.
