She could take over a game at any time when she was on the volleyball court. Liberty Senior, Abbie Knepper led the Lady Panthers to the Regional Quarterfinals this year and is now being rewarded with a scholarship to Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. Knepper, who had been playing on varsity since she was a freshman, is ready for the next chapter in her life.

“I am more than excited for a chance to play college volleyball,” said Knepper. “I love playing the game and I’m looking forward to continuing playing it at the next level.”

Knepper decided a few months ago on Howard Payne, picking it over a couple of other choices. “I love the campus, players, and coaches. They made me feel right at home, and I am ready for this challenge.”

Not only did Knepper play for Head Coach Karen Slack in high school, but she also played select for a team out of Mont Belvieu called Excel.

“I just cannot get enough of this game,” added Knepper.

Being a senior this past year, Knepper was looked up to for leadership.

“When something didn’t go my way, I just had to shake it off and move on to the next play,” said Knepper. “You have to lead by example, and if the younger ones see you get done, then they will do the same.”

Knepper was an all-district first-team selection this past year for the Lady Panthers.

“We had not won a playoff game since I have been here, so making it to the Regional Quarterfinals my last year was awesome.”

Knepper also has been running track at Liberty since she was in seventh grade. She will major in Biology Pre-Med at Howard Payne.
