TARKINGTON - The Lady Horns held Shepherd to just five first-half points in building a double-digit lead and cruised to a 41-26 victory over the Lady Pirates on Friday night at home.

Shepherd jumped out to a 5-2 lead before a bucket by Emily Robinson off an assist by Martyna Proulx made it 5-4.

Tarkington then got three-pointers by Proulx and Monica Rodriguez, and the Lady Longhorns led 14-5 late in the second period.

The home team would lead 15-5 at the half.

In the first minute of the third quarter, the Lady Pirates scored more points than the entire first half thanks to a couple of threepoint makes, and the deficit was down to 16-11.

After Shepherd got within 18-15, Monica Rodriguez scored on the inside, and the advantage was back to 20-15.

Rodriguez continued her big third quarter and grabbed an offensive rebound, and scored, and the Lady Longhorns lead was back to 24-15.

The freshman then followed with a jumper, and the score was 26-18.

Emily Lowe then got a steal and passed to Rodriguez, who scored, and the advantage was back in double digits at 28-18.

Lowe sank a three-pointer in the fourth quarter, and Tarkington was in control again at 33-18.

Lowe then assisted on a Chelsey Manners score, and after a drive and score by Oakley Blackburn, the game was out of reach at 41-20.

Proulx led the scoring for the Lady Longhorns with 9 points. Lowe and Rodriguez each finished with 8 points each.

Tarkington will travel to Trinity on Friday night.
