Liberty crushes United 18-2

ORANGE — Kenan Clevenger homered and drove in three runs to go along with two hits and pitcher Nolan Kay struck out three in leading the Liberty Panthers to an 18-2 win over Beaumont United.

It was a solid performance that took only four innings on Friday evening at the West Orange-Stark Tournament.

Caden Mullinix reached on an error and then moved to second on a single by Ethan Hofmeister. Grady Silva then grounded into a fi elder’s choice for the first out of the inning.

Clevenger then launched a pitch well over the left field wall for a 3-0 Panthers lead.

Liberty then busted the game open with seven runs in the second inning. Hofmeister had a sacrifice fly for an RBI, and then a two- run single by Kody Sandefur made it 8-0 Then, on the play, the throw was air- mailed into center fi eld, allowing Kade Jordan and Sandefur to score, and the lead was 10-0.

The Timberwolves put up a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to cut the deficit to 10-2.

The Panthers then answered those runs with a pair of their own. Silva walked and then Cade Carter singled. Leyton Kirkland followed with a double to score both Silva and Carter and the lead was back to 12-2.

Liberty ended the game in the fourth inning as Silva, Carter, and Kirkland all had RBI walks.

Casper Eckols then had an RBI single, and Peyton Fregia doubled to score two more and put an end to the night for United. Kirkland and Sandefur also had three RBIs each.

The Panthers will play in the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Tournament this weekend.
