The Panther and Lady Panther varsity cross country teams traveled to Galveston last weekend for the Galveston Island Beach Run hosted by Ball High School.

Both teams represented Liberty well in a mostly 5A/6A field. Freshman Patrick Flowers paced the boys team with a 17th place medal finish out of 184 runners. Angel Ruiz finished in the top 25, while Juan Banda, Rene Romero and Matthew Morin all helped the Panthers to an eighth place team finish (top 4A or below team) out of 21 teams.

Senior Esmeralda Mares led the Lady Panthers, and along with Julia Gerardo, Kaylee Hernandez, Miryam Valencia and Adrienne Trahan, finished 15th out of 20 teams in the 4K race, which is about half a mile longer than their normal race of 2 miles.

The Panthers will travel to Dayton this coming Saturday for the Bronco Invitational.

Buy a 1-year subscription to THE VINDICATOR from a Liberty Panther between Sept. 16 and Oct. 11 and half of the purchase price will go to the Liberty Athletic Booster Club for the benefit of your Liberty Panthers.
