4 Levels of Prayer

Prayer is the most important thing that we can do daily that keeps our flesh under subjection and our spirit encouraged. The bible teaches us in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “ Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” The first level is prayer. What is

The first level is prayer. What is prayer exactly? Prayer is simply talking with God. When we pray, we are communicating directly with God. He hears us whenever and wherever we pray. God hears our prayers 24 hours a day/7 days a week. By praying, God knows we are now talking directly with Him

Then the second level is supplication. What is supplication? In this type of prayer, one asks for or desires something from God. In prayer, there may be no request made but only praise and thanksgiving showered on God. Supplication is a form of prayer in which someone makes a humble petition or an entreaty to God. Payer, however, can be defined as sincere thanksgiving or requests made to God.

The third level is Thanksgiving. What is Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving in the Bible means to respond to God’s goodness, mercy and grace with gratitude. The word for giving thanks in the Old Testament means to raise hands to God in gratitude. Why must we be thankful to God? Even if we have some physical problems or some pain we have to live with, we should thank God for what we still can do, whether it is waking up in the morning, or going to work, or finding some moments of enjoyment in our lives.

The fourth level that I want to talk about is Intercession. What is intercession? The Bible tells us that intercession is the act of interceding or a prayer, petition, or entreaty in favor of another. When we go to God in prayer for another that is what interceding means. What does the Bible say about interceding for others? James 5:16 “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

God desires to hear our prayers. We all use different types of prayer during our prayer times. What may start out as a prayer of faith can soon develop into intercession with supplications and thanksgiving. There is no reason why we cannot apply any of the above types of prayers to all the situations that face us. If any of the above types of prayers are absent in your life then you should seek God’s face about it. Ask Him to fill you with more of His love and make your prayer life richer.
