Product of a Wound

THOUGHTFUL THINGS

We live in a society that so many suffer from wounds of the past and present. But I want to encourage someone today that being a product of a wound can be a treasure if you allow the wound to heal and learn to appreciate the process. You can be a pearl!

“Did you know that an oyster that has not been wounded in any way does not produce pearls?

A pearl is a healed wound.

Pearls are a product of pain, the result of a foreign or unwanted substance entering the oyster, such as a parasite or a grain of sand. The inside of an oyster shell is a shiny substance called “nacre.” When a grain of sand enters, the nacre cells go to work and cover the grain of sand with layers and more layers to protect the defenseless body from the oyster. As a result, a beautiful pearl is formed! The more pearls, the more valuable it becomes.

The process of producing a pearl can range from 6 months to several years. Even before this, it takes about 3 years for the mollusk to reach a mature age in order to produce a pearl. A mollusk is only able to begin the pearl making process naturally or with the help of humans when it reaches this mature age God never allows pain without a purpose. What if your greatest ministry to others comes out of your greatest hurt. The Bible tells us “The hard things we may be going through now are really nothing in comparison to the glory that will be revealed in us later. (Romans 8:17-18)” Sometime our process can take years before we understand or see the product of the pain, but I can assure it will come. Gos said he would never put on us more than we can bare, and He would never leave us nor forsake us. His promises are true. They are yea and amen.

Pain is the reminder that the real enemy is trying to take us out and bring us down by keeping us stuck in broken places. Pain is the gift that motivates us to fight with brave tenacity and fierce determination, knowing there’s healing on the other side.

And in the in-between, in that desperate place where we aren’t quite on the other side of it all yet, and our heart still feels quite raw that is when we must trust God and know that He is turning our pain into a treasure.

Pain is the invitation for God to move in and replace our faltering strength with His. He is turning that pain into a pearl!
