When Life Gives You Lemons

  • Article Image Alt Text

Have you ever felt like you have lost everything? Did you continue to trust God or did you blame God? Many times, when life sends us a curve ball or we are facing difficulties we want to blame God. But that is when we must trust God and know that He is working all things for our good. Even when friends and family tell us to walk away from God we must hold fast to God’s unchanging hand. Job’s w i fe to l d him to curse God and die.

Job’s friends initially came to comfort him, but when he did not get over his grief quickly enough or admit to any wrongdoing, they added to his pain with their words. Job began to believe God had turned away from him. Then as Jon prayed, he remembers that God was with him. He said “ Though He [ God] slay me, yet will I trust Him” ( Job 13: 15) The book of Job gives an account of a righteous man who faithfully responded to difficult trials. Job’s experience invites us to ponder difficult questions about the causes of suffering, the frailty of human existence, and the reasons to trust in God, even when life seems unfair.

The story of Job exemplifies our struggle to understand the problem of suffering. Job was upright and unwavering in his commitment to God, yet he loses everything— his children, his wealth, and eventually his health. For some of us, his experience of suffering resonates profoundly. Yet Job still trusted God. Job never waivers or fails. Through Job, we can see the value of patience, perseverance, and the importance of holding our tongue, not to mention God’s faithfulness, restorative power, and goodness when we hold our peace and let God fight our battles.

This is what the Lord promises to do for us when we are facing hard times: He will keep you safe, He will hide you, He will be close to you, and ultimately, He will turn the situation around and help you stand, sure and secure. Be as steadfast as Job when life gives you lemons!!
