THOUGHTFUL THINGS
Through the Fire
There are seasons in life when it feels like we are walking through fire—intense trials, heartbreaks, and losses that threaten to consume us. But as believers, we are not alone in these fiery moments. The Bible reminds us that fire doesn’t have to destroy us—it can refine us.
In Isaiah 43:2 (KJV), God promises: “When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”
This scripture does not say “if” you walk through the fire—but when. Fire is not optional. It’s a part of life. But so is the presence of God. He walks with us in the flame, and His power preserves us.
The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Daniel 3 is a perfect picture of this. These three young Hebrew men refused to bow to the golden image of King Nebuchadnezzar. Because of their obedience to God, they were thrown into a fiery furnace that was heated seven times hotter than usual. But instead of being consumed, they were preserved. Daniel 3:25 (KJV) says: “Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” Jesus Himself showed up in the fire. The fire didn’t touch them. In fact, when they came out, they didn’t even smell like smoke (Daniel 3:27).
When we go through fiery trials, it’s not because God has forsaken us but because He is preparing us. Fire purifies. Gold is refined in the fire to remove impurities. In the same way, God uses trials to remove doubt, pride, fear, and anything that hinders our faith.
Romans 8:18 (KJV) says, “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
Your fire today will lead to glory tomorrow. Your tears, your prayers, and your faithfulness are not wasted. God is working behind the scenes to bring beauty out of ashes (Isaiah 61:3).
So, don’t give up in the fire. Don’t lose heart. Just like the Hebrew boys, you will come out—not burned, not broken, but blessed. And when you do, others will see the power of the God who brings His people through the flames.
Let your trial be your testimony. You’re going through the fire—but you’re not going alone. And on the other side, there’s a glory waiting that is far greater than the pain. God is always faithful!
