It is time to fire up the pit and get together with family and friends as the nation celebrates its 249th birthday this weekend, and there are plenty of patriotic gatherings across the county.

Fort Anahuac Park is the best place to be this July 4, with plenty of space for the family to come out and enjoy the day, but it is the evening fun that is certain to thrill.

For over a decade, Anahuac National Bank has hosted 4th of July Fireworks for the community to enjoy, and this year is no different.

The ANB fireworks display is set for dusk at the park, and there are plenty of spots to enjoy the show.

On the east end of the county, folks in Winnie will be celebrating an evening hosted by the Winnie Area Chamber of Commerce.

Winnie-Stowell Park is the gathering spot, and it is sure to be filled with red, white and blue as far as the eye can see. There will be a watermelon eating contest, golf cart and bike parade, free hot dogs, soft drinks, and even better, ice cream.

The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. with an awesome fireworks display to wrap up the evening.

In Mont Belvieu, area residents will be descending on City Park for a patriotic day of fun, with plenty for the entire family to do.

Anyone looking to take a jog that morning needs to come out for the Texas Bud Heat Wave 5K and five-mile run at 7 a.m. To register, visit www.texas5milerun.org.

Folks looking for a bit less exercise and something more festive, well, the park opens at 3 p.m. and there will be plenty of music, food and fun.

There is a washer tournament, watermelon eating contest, bounce houses, waterslides, games and more.

The entertainment starts with the National Anthem at 3:45 p.m., then Braedon Barnhill and John Morgan take the stage before the big show with Stoney LaRue at 7:30 p.m.

The night will be capped off with a huge fireworks show at 9 p.m.

Fort Anahuac Park is located at 1704 N. Main St., Winnie-Stowell Park is at 335 Park St., and City Park is at 10900 Eagle Dr.

There is no doubt Chambers County will be celebrating America in style.
