BAYTOWN—The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office had a busy July, holding various efforts to provide school supplies for students and raise funds for Special Olympics Texas.

CCSO held a successful second Cram the Cruiser event on Tuesday, July 22, and immediately headed back out into the community on Thursday, July 24, for Tip a Cop.

“It is important for CCSO to have community outreach programs because they build trust, improve public safety, and foster stronger relationships between the deputies and the communities we serve,” said CCSO Deputy Santiago “Turbo” Turrubiate, Jr.

For Cram the Cruiser, students from all campuses of Anahuac and East Chambers Independent School Districts will benefit from the program.

CCSO deputies will deliver supplies from the drive to the schools’ counselors, and from there, school staff will deliver the supplies to students in need.

Tip a Cop, a long-time event that has gained popularity in recent years, was held to raise funds for Special Olympics Texas.

Ten CCSO deputies and two Mont Belvieu Police Department officers worked in about four-hour shifts at Texas Roadhouse, raising $4,292.

The east region as a whole raised $160,000, and funds will go directly to supporting training and competitions for children and adults with disabilities.

Turrubiate shared that CCSO enjoys Tip a Cop because it gives athletes the chance to participate in Special Olympics Texas events and national competitions.
